Day 5: Balquhidder to Waitpinga Campsite

Daily distance:13.2km
Total distance: 74 klm's
Walking time: 5 hrs

We started out early this morning so we did'nt get caught in the dark again. Once again straight uphill out of the campsite over rolling hills with sheep all over the place. The weather was perfect and the gentle decline was perfect. We made great time on the hard gentle downhills and it did not take long for us to reach the coastal cliffs. The cliffs afforded us great veiws of the rugged coastline with it's ofshore island. These island are home to Australias largest colony of Australian Sea-lions and some New Zealand Fur seals..... not that we saw any......

The walk was spectacular so I'll let the pictures tell the story. We made camp early so managed to get our tents into the sun, do some clothes washing and just relax. At the top of the highest dune we got reception and managed to get hold of Belinda to let her know what was going on and she would also arrange a place for us in Victor Harbour.

We camped in the old Denis's hut which was built in 1890. Dinner was an extravagant affair with 1 packet egg fried rice, savory chicken rice,  chicken noodle soup and chicken noodle soup all in the same pot. It was like heaven!

  1. Hooded Plovers - hope the numbers have increased over the last few years. A lot of washing, what's with that. Come on you can go a few days without it - smile
