Day 9: IV to Heysens Rest

What a night.... the lights were not on  timer switch and did not go off so we slept in daylight all night! Not only that but we had 452 Little Corella, 150 Galah and ???? Magpies come roost in a gum tree above out tent. Being a full moon the noise was incredible.. OK enough about that....

This morning we had 2 ladies come sneak round the side of the building, excuse themselves and go ahead and have a smoke... Incredible.... The school bus came and collected school kids and we went over the road and had a coffee and croissants. We figured a short distance so we had a bit of time hence leaving later would not be a train smash.... were we wrong......

The road out of town was level for about 20m then we started climbing, and climbing, and climbing and climbing, and...... ok we climbed ........high. We folowed a fence for about 6km straight up and down through some thick dry bush. Would've been great if it was not straight up and down......
Checking the GPS we saw we were about 2km from the B&B we were going to stay at and then the trail turned and started moving away from the place and the distance started getting bigger. Dee managed to convince me that a road would probably take us back the same way (which it did) but bladey hell it was hard walking away, to get closer.

Anyway we finally made it to the Heysen B & B and got stuck at the gate due to a combination lock and no buzzer. You would've sworn we were in SA! Eventually we got through to the number, the gate was opened and we were shown to our chalet. Deffinetly an upgrade from our tent! The beers in the fridge got hoovered before either of us had taken off our boots. No worries ordered more later......

Clothes got washed, bodies got washed, wine got drunk..... so did I....... and we reminisced on the long steep climbs during the day.

The GPS will tell the story of the incline and decline......... Until tomorrow...
