Day 42: Curnows Hut to Georgetown

Daily distance: 30.2km
Total distance: 725.5km

Bus picked us up at the front door and 25 minutes later we were at Curnows Hut. Horrible to think it took us a day to get there walking and half hour today by car.... Mmmmm... maybe there's a message there?

The first section of the walk was a re-route around a state plantation which took us a long way further than was expected. 7.9Km later we turned south off the road, climbed the forestry fence and headed SOUTH again towards the spot we should have started on. It was cold on the ridges with a strong wind blowing but the scenary was fantastic. There were a lot of sheep around who all absolutely shat themselves everytime we popped over the ridge next to them, which led to a mass stampede in every direction.

The Heysen signs kinda dried up on the ridge so we followed our nose and eventually came out at the spot where we joined the original track. Our thinking was we would head down tne mountains at this point, however we were horribly wrong and we spent the next 3 hours on the ridge heading south. Fantastic views in every direction however frustrating, as we headed so far south it felt like we were back tracking all the way back to Curnows Hut!

We stopped on the top of the ridge for a handfull of trail mix and some  chocolate with a view of 3 different towns in the area. Horrible to see Georgetown so  close but it would still take us 3 hours to get there. We eventually scattered some sheep off our path and stumbled down the mountain. Once off the mountain we hit the road which led us in a straight line for 8km into Georgetown. We had to give Geoff  a ring and tell him we would be a bit later than expected but luckily he waited.

Well what was meant to be a 23km walk turned into  30km walk. Two big ones in two days, maybe tomorrow we need a break
