Day 48: Murray Town to Melrose

Daily distance: 19.3km
Total distance: 831.3km

Woke up this morning and watched the sun come up over the far mountains under CLEAR SKIES.......... not a cloud. Knowing that todays distance was not that big, we took our time packing up and getting started. As we spent the night under cover the tent was dry so not going to be that heavy to carry. Once packed up we made our way across the road to the Hotel come coffee shop and had a coffee and meat and whisky pie.... Well Dee was not so happy with a meat pie for breakfast, but then again she is Australian!

I cannot explain how nice it was starting the walk this morning in sunlight, and walking all day in SUNLIGHT. It was the best walk we have had in a long, long time. We had it all today, hills, dirt roads, farm tracks, fences, river crossings, rock climbs and last but not least  a tar road into Melrose Town. Absolutely fantastic! We also spent most of the day walking with Mount Remarkable in the distance and on our horizon.  Amazing!

Melrose looked big looking down into it, but in reality, still small. We walked down the main street, past the bike and walk monument, past the locals all asking how we were and where we were going. To the caravan park and the first, not so friendly caravan park manager, who eventually aknowledged we were 'guests' and then offloaded our gear and went for a stroll down the  main street.  Dropped in to the old bank, had a coffee in the vault then went for dinner at the North Star Hotel. What a find.... absolutely awesome and great food. Now settling down to a good nights sleep....
