It was overcast this morning when we left the Laura caravan park but the wind was down and it was not raining. Heading out of Laura we got onto the old railway track, which has been converted into a cycle track, and headed north for Wirrabara.
The going was great with the odd patches of sunlight coming through the cloud. We stopped at the Laura golf Club for a bite to eat and once again I saw those greens that aren't green but black...... After breaky the clouds started getting a bit heavier and more threatening with the wind picking up a bit.
The road headed north next to the Main North Road to Stone Town. No we are still in Australia and have not moved to Tanzania..... Stone Town here is an old railway town that served the woodcutters and loggers from the Wirrabira Forest to the main ports of Adelaide in the 1800's. Its not in use anymore but just very interesting to see the old buildings, some of which are still in use, and to read about the past history of the place.
Wirrabara was only 8.5km north of Stone Hut but as usual when you know how far a place is, it just never came. What did come though was the rain! Four hours later and it's still raining outside and it does not look like it's gonna let up anytime soon. We watched the news earlier and it's flooding all over the place and there is snow all over on the mountains. Excellent time of the year to be walking....... ya think? We're just hoping that it rains out tonight and is clear tomorrow!
